Real Sugar + Funeral = Kummerspeck

Kummerspeck is a German word which literally means "grief bacon." It is used to describe the excess weight gained from emotion-related overeating.

So far I have added about 3 pounds of Kummerspeck. His death happened right at the end of my period... so I never really recovered from that monthly weight spike when the grief-eating started. *Sigh* I've been sticking with my exercise, but not counting my calories that well. I'll get through this and get back on the healthy wagon... in a while.

Jess..I think grief bacon is a PERFECT phrase for what we who struggle (or struggled!) with food do to ourselves.

I have a picture of your heroic uncle in my head, and I see him there, rooting you on and telling you that the hardest, most challenging things in life are also the most worthwhile.

Your sadness will dissipate, and your fond memories will grow stronger, just like the hurtful things you did to your body in the past have faded and your energy and enthusiasm for life have grown in boundless ways.

You'll do him proud.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Hang in there! Food can only offer so much comfort - sometimes it's really great though! – but you'll find your way back to moderation. Those Germans really know what they're talkin' about :)
