Here it is...

Thanks to all who spotted my picture being used in an advertisement on Facebook!

Please continue to let me know when you see the ad.

Here is the screen print of the ad:

There are laws that very clearly state that a person's likeness or image cannot be used in advertising without consent. (Parent's consent if a minor.) Since this is obviously my picture, I think I have a case!

Now to find a Lawyer who agrees!! :)

It is so frustrating because I worked so HARD to lose my weight naturally... and now my picture is being used to advertise "magic pills." I am mad at so many levels.

On the positive side, I am working on my first video-blog. I hope it will be up by this weekend!

Cheers,

Jess

I'm so glad you found the ad, and I hope you're successful in suing the crap out of those creeps! That is so wrong, and very unjust after all your hard work. Good luck!

It seems awfully suspicious that you had a request to use your picture for one of those "miracle" pills, and then shortly afterwards there it is... in just such an ad... even though you said NO! If I were you, I'd start my investigations with the people who contacted you to begin with. Just my 2 cents... :-)

Good luck with this, and please keep us updated with what comes of it.

I've stumbled upon your page and must say that you are an inspiration. You are truly believable when you say that slow and steady is best. I've seen what rapid weight loss can do to a body. A friend had to have plastic surgery over her whole body to remove skin. I hope you go after those people so that they know that they cant do that to people. Good luck in fighting the good fight

I'm guessing My Virtual Model didn't authorize them to use their product as part of the ad either. You might forward the ad MVM and see if you can their help in getting the ad pulled.

Hi, Jess! This is Laurie S, who used to work with you in Madison! You sent me the link to your blog many moons ago.

I just saw this ad on Facebook and recognized the picture, despite the fact that I only saw your picture probably once and it was like a year ago. I just wanted to let you know!

Hope you're well!

Oh, I wanted to say one more thing-- you can report ads to Facebook and they might take it off.

Jess said...

I wish I could! I do not have a Facebook login to report it and that is required to reach the site!

The companies that are advertised have nothing to do with the ads. These companies have advertising affiliates, and the affiliates get commission through sales. It's the affiliates that create the ads, not the companies themselves. That's why different diet companies were advertised using your pictures. It's almost impossible to track down the affiliate that created that ad because there are hundreds of thousands of them. Good luck.
